Level is a Stat in Code Vein. This stat reflects the player character's Level, and is increased by using Haze at a Mistle. Unlike other games, players do not level up individual stats or attributes, and instead increase a total baseline for the character.

Level Information & Notes

  • Leveling up is done at Mistles. The highest level possible is 300.
  • When a player levels up, they cannot choose to level up individual stats. Stat distribution is determined by Blood Codes and for gifts by Blood Veil, however the raw numeric value gained by the stat distribution is determined by level.
  • The Player Character (PC) gains Hit Points (HP) and Stamina with each level. These are the only stat change you can see reflected on the leveling menu. The actual amount varies by your currently equipped Blood Code, and changing blood codes can accordingly, change the amount of stamina and HP you have.
  • The character level determines all weapons' actual Physical Attack by adding Base Damage and Scaling Damage. This differs by your weapon stats (like scaling) + your current Blood Code, which is then affected by your current level.

Important Notes About Leveling

  • Leveling can prevent the player from Mastering gifts. This happens because each area has a level cap for Gift Experience (Gift EXP), and if the player goes above said level, they will stop gaining Gift Experience from that area.
    • This level cap increases with each higher NG+ cycle the player enters, allowing players to gain Gift EXP again if their level proved to be too high for their current playthrough.
    • Mastering Gifts with Awake MJ items is not affected by this in any way.
  • Players looking for optimizing their leveling as well as being able to master gifts can work on a rule of thumb: For each of the Bosses they kill of the main game (So no DLC or Depth Bosses), they can level up 7 levels. This will allow them to keep mastering any gifts they want by killing enemies, while staying at a good level for each area.
    • So for example, the PC starts at level 1. When they kill their first boss, you can level up to level 8. When they kill their second boss, they can go to level 15, etc.
      • Please note that while this is not the most accurate rule of thumb (areas have specific level caps), this ensures the player will always recieve Gift Experience if they progress through the game normally.  This would prevent them from getting gift experience in earlier areas, however.

This is very confusingly worded. Stat gain is affected by equipped code but its also not? Does it actually matter? Should I stay low level until I get a certain code or not? I understand less now from this description than I thought I did before.

Thats just to get from lvl 299 to lvl 300 if you want to know the total amount add all of those numbers together. Thats how much exp is needed to go from 0 to 300

So I can safely max out my character's level without hampering multiplayer in any way? From what I can see it will simply try to match you with anyone in an area you can currently reach but I want to be sure before I accidentally cut myself off from whatever the standard player level is.

One question. Is your level determining how fast are you mastering the skills? I am asking because in the beginning of the game I mastered them in a few minutes. Now I am in the late game and my level is 100 and I noticed that it takes too many kills to master them. So leveling up uncontrollably is not actually a good thing, right?

            • The level up system is quite friendly for players who want to play as different classes/jobs/vocations. However, there is a good and bad side to it. GOOD SIDE: The player can easily & freely change classes/jobs/vocations (Blood Codes) without worrying that their stats are not appropriate or suited for the selected Blood Code. BAD SIDE: The player cannot perform stat Min-Max-ing and have OP stat builds. You can level up from Lv1 to Lv100 as Atlas. However, when you change to a Fighter after level up, you will still have the low stats of a Lv100 Fighter. Thus, most builds out there are mostly gift/skill builds.

Is this like Dark Souls that we should stay at a certain level to have an active multiplayer or we're free to level up? Since there's no pvp i doubt there will be any problem but just to be sure. I'm level 100 right now with around 4M haze so i hope someone can clear this.

                • Did anybody notice during level up that, even though you have equipped the same class/type of weapon (1H Sword, 2H Sword, etc.) in Weapon slot 1 & 2, the ATK of both weapons do not increase simultaneously (at the same time)? It appears that during level up, the equipped Blood Code not only affects the increase in HP, Stamina, Light Gift power, & Dark Gift power, it also affects the ATK power increase in the Weapon types and their sub-type (Slash, Pierce, Crush). This means that, even after you leveled up, there may be no increase in the ATK power of the weapons you have equipped. Increase in Light & Dark gift powers are not affected by the equpped Blood Veil.
